Prof. Dr. Pelin Güneri has graduated from Ege University School of Dentistry in 1986 and has started her PhD education at Department of Oral Diagnosis and Radiology of the same institution. After receiving PhD in 1995, Dr. Güneri has become Associate Professor in 2000 and Professor in 2005. Currently, she is working at Ege University School of Dentistry, Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology as a professor and researcher. Dr. Güneri has also tutored in Van Yüzüncü Yıl University School of Dentistry and Cyprus Near East University School of Dentistry as a visitor lecturer. Dr. Güneri has 98 articles published in national and international journals which received over 200 citations, and she has co-authored a book. She has lectured in many national and international meetings and also received research and presentation awards. Dr.Güneri also participated in scientific committees of many national and international congresses and has been in the reviewer list of various academic journals. Oral mucosal diseases, oral premalignant and malignant lesions, early detection methods of those structures and digital radiology are among her scientific interests.

Step By Step Oral Mucosal Lesion Diagnosis

Oral mucosal lesions on the soft tissues of oral cavity are occured as a consequence of both local factors as well as systemic disorders. Detection of the lesions during intraoral examination and differential diagnosis from anatomical variants are necessary to provide accurate diagnosis and timely initiation of the treatment.

Oral mucosal lesions are generally diagnosed with a systematical approach starting with appropriate and adequate anamnesis, followed by evaluation of the findings of the lesions such as initiation, duration, clinical pattern and location. In this lecture, samples of frequently observed white, pigmented, ulcerative and vesiculobullous lesions are presented and tips for diagnostic evaluation are provided
