Dental Implants – Implant or Plan - Avoiding Complications
Dental Implants have become an everyday practice in the dentist’s office. In this lecture I will discuss the advantages of pre planning adequate implant position, from the surgical aspect as well as from the prosthodontic reconstruction treatment plan. Through case studies new innovations that assist the clinician to properly plan and insert implants will be presented. These software planning techniques provide the dentist the opportunity to properly plan the prosthodontic reconstruction as well. The use of CBCT and 3rd party software, simplifies the work for the dentist which in turn helps prevent poor results and avoids complications.
Consulting a qualified Maxillofacial radiologist with the expertise of interpreting professionally the CBCT scan will prevent pitfalls, complications and possible failures some of which may inflict damage to the patients and rarely but unfortunately may be fatal.
Combining innovative technologies including CBCT and Intraoral scanners allows the practitioners to achieve better and more accurate results, avoiding unnecessary difficulties and providing the dentist more confidence to predict the desired outcome.
In this lecture I will present the guidelines proposed for CBCT scans in implant planning how to prescribe the adequate scan for the desired purpose as well as The field of view required, the resolution selection and most significantly the need to request a professional interpretation of the scan.
