PREPARATION, MATERIALS CHOICE AND CEMENTATION TECHNIQUES FOR LAMINATE VENEERS
The patients’ demand for esthetics raised significantly in the last decade and esthetic restorative treatments just like laminate veneers became more and more widespread.
Modern prosthodontic technologies and latest generation restorative materials allowed to reinterpret traditional dental preparations in a more conservative way. The use of metal-free materials enables to customize the prosthetic support with a minimally invasive approach, saving a significant amount of dental tissues and keeping in most cases teeth vitality; this makes the patients’ comfort better and implies lower biological and economic costs for restorative treatments.
As a consequence, current preparation strategies vary from the conventional full-contour geometries to the no-prep approach, where the prostheses restore missing tissues and integrate in biological spaces with no mechanical preparation of enamel and dentin, a pivotal aspect in patients affected by diastemata, abrasion and/or erosion. This approach needs the conditioning of dental ceramics and the use of adhesive cementation techniques that guarantee resistance and longevity over time.
Considering the plenty of dental ceramics and luting agents available on the market, clinicians have to make informed choices to select properly both the preparation strategy and the restorative materials to achieve optimal clinical outcomes.
The lecture will aim at providing an overview of the scientific evidences and clinical protocols regarding the current treatment options for preparation, materials selection and cementation techniques of ceramic laminate veneers.
