Endodontic Problems and Their Solutions

Due to the latest innovations in dental sciences  and the increase in public awareness concerning oral care , conservative and protective treatment approaches have become more predominant nowadays. The increase in the number of endodontic therapies have also brought about some problems likely to be encountered in dental practice.
There is a  possibility of confronting a problem in every stage of endodontic therapy. The most important aspect of endodontic treament is a correct diagnosis. Even after a correct diagnosis,  the following problems are likely to be encountered during the stages of endodontic therapy:
       - Failure in achieving a sufficient anesthesia

  • Failure in the isolation of the operating field and lack of obtaining an adequate view.
  • Restorations preventing an orthograde access
  • Difficulties in the localization of root canal orifices.
  • Failure in locating an accesory canal
  • Anatomical variations of root canals
  • Severe curvatures of roots
  • Calcifications and pulp stones preventing root canal access
  • Bleeding
  • Radiographical difficulties
  • Broken instruments inside the root canals
  • Perforations

In addition to the aforementioned problems, flare-ups which may occur between appointments are distressing conditions both for the patient and the dental practitioner. In addition to iatrogenic problems, systemic diseases such as clotting disorders, diabetes, immune deficiencies, cardiac disorders may have adverse effects during the course of endodontic therapy. The aim of this conference is to bring some suggestions concerning the minimization and resolution of these problems possible to be encountered during endodontic treatment.
