Is Cone Beam Computed Tomography Required for Endodontics?
Imaging has a key role in the practice of endodontics. A fine quality imaging has important contributions to imaging of root canal morphology, determining canal length and postoperative and long term follow up of the treatment. Conventional imaging techniques are usually used for these purposes. Recently, conventional periapical radiographs which provide two dimensional images replace with digital systems. Even though the conventional systems have better resolutions than digitals, advancements in sensor technologies, increase the image resolution of digital systems. The advantages of digital systems are imaging with lower radiation dose, ability to develop, save and transfer images. Three-dimensional imaging techniques like cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) are also used in endodontics. CBCT is used for determining the location and structure of root canal, imaging of vertical fractures which cannot be observed with two-dimensional imaging, determining the presence of accessory canals and treatment follow-ups. Still, further studies are needed about the use of CBCT in endodontics.

I was born in 26 June 1966 in Ankara. After completing the primary, elementary and high school education in Ankara, I have graduated from Ankara University Faculty of Dentistry. I worked as a Medical Education Consultant in drug industry for a while. I was assigned as a dentist to Erzurum Numune Hospital in 1998. In 2000, I had started to work as a research assistant in Ondokuz Mayıs University Facultuy of Dentistry Department of Oral Diagnosis and Radiology. I have completed my doctoral education 2006 and earned the “Doctor” title. In 2008, i was assigned as a teaching professor in Ondokuz Mayıs University Department of Oral Diagnosis and Radiology. After working 4 years, I was assigned to Erciyes University Faculty of Dentistry. I have passed the exams  succesfully in 2015 and earned the title  of “Associate Professor”. I still work as a associated professor in Erciyes University Faculty of Dentistry Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology. I am married and father of two children.
