Topical Fluoride Applications
Fluoride is an evidence based and the most widely used  agent in clinic and public health for caries prevention and remineralization. Since the post-eruptive effect of fluoride  has been more emphasized than its pre-eruptive effect, today it is  mostly used as various topical forms individually or professionally; and the use of fluoride toothpastes are accepted as a safe and an effective method for caries prevention of communities. In this presentation, the guidelines of fluoride usage according to age and caries risk status, recommended dental fluoride products in pedodontics will be reported in the light of evidence based data.


Associate Professor Arzu PINAR ERDEM graduated from Istanbul University Faculty of Dentistry with a degree in 2000 and she started her PhD education at Istanbul University, Faculty of Dentistry, Department of Pedodontics in the same year. In 2006 she completed her doctoral thesis on " Effects of Two Fluoride Varnishes and One Fluoride/Chlorhexidine Varnish on Streptococcus mutans and Streptococcus sobrinus Biofilm Formation in Vitro ". She worked as Research Assistant Doctor between 2006-2013 and received the title of Associate Professor in 2013 and still working in the same department. Arzu PINAR ERDEM is currently a member of the Turkish Pedodontics Association (TPD), the European Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (EAPD), the International Association for Dental Traumatology (IADT) and the International Association for Dental Research (IADR). She received the "American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry's Paul P. Taylor Award" in 2012. Her research interests include; preventive dentistry, pedodontic endodontics, oral health of medically compromised children, regenerative pulp treatments, dental stem cells and trauma. She is married and has two daughters.
